Did you know that YouTube stars such as the Swedish comedian PewDiePie (real name: Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg) make millions of dollars every year? PewDiePie made $12 million in 2017 from monetizing his YouTube channel. He has a YouTube following of over 61 million.

YouTube is one of the best ways to make money online. Over one billion people watch YouTube videos every month. If you can make it big on YouTube like PewDiePie, there is nothing quite like it. You will not only make a lot of money, you will also be able to establish yourself as an authority in your niche, whatever it is.

The question is how to build your YouTube following.

The truth is, there is no secret formula as such for making it big on YouTube. You have to create high quality content, engage with your followers and acknowledge or reward those who follow you in one way or another.

The key to building a huge YouTube following is consistency.

If you have noticed some of the famous YouTube personalities such as Smosh and Fine Brothers, you will notice how consistent their messaging is.

They have a specific point of view and they have stuck to it for years. They know what their loyal followers want and give it to them, time and time again.

I have seen a lot of YouTube channels that made big waves when they started, but fell off course because they changed direction in search of new followers.

Here’s what you should understand…

People subscribe to your channel on YouTube because they like your videos and they expect to see more of such content in the future. If they notice a drop in quality or an inconsistency in the messaging, they are going to tune out, or unsubscribe.

Be very clear about what your channel is going to be about. Communicate this to your followers through all of your YouTube videos. There shouldn’t be any doubt whatsoever.

You can do this by creating a channel trailer, or a pitch that tells your audience exactly what they can expect from you. I am also a big believer in using attractive customized thumbnails to catch attention of YouTube users.

Next, focus on the quality of the content….

The quality of the content is the other important thing you should have a strong focus on. The user should have a compelling reason to subscribe to your YouTube channel. There should be something to hook them, to motivate them enough to click on the “subscribe” button.

You can start by creating playlists of your content and organizing all videos in a way that gets the attention of your audience. Keywords are very important as that’s how your videos are going to get found. The theme is the other critical thing to consider – YouTube organizes all videos according to their themes, so choose one that matches your content perfectly.

Also, it is absolutely essential to optimize your content for the mobile. Remember, most people watch YouTube videos on their iPhones or Android phones.

Keep the videos crisp and short – nobody likes YouTube videos that are longer than 6 or 7 minutes.

 Finally…

You should have a specific point of view that is unique and interesting, or educational, which provides value to your audience. Whether you succeed on YouTube or not, depends on one important thing – are you creating value for your followers or are you not.

Create compelling content that provides value to those who watch your videos, which educates them, inspires them, entertains them, motivates them to take action or makes them laugh. That’s the way to grow your YouTube following.
