What’s better for you as an affiliate marketer – Google or Yahoo?
As a business owner, you know that you cannot rely anymore on traditional methods such as word of mouth to generate leads for your business. Ads in local newspapers or yellow pages are no longer as effective as they used to be.
You have to develop a comprehensive internet marketing plan, and this begins with a website or blog, and an account on all of the popular social media sites. Also, you should know the basics of advertising on search engines – specifically on Google and Yahoo.
Google is an obvious choice for search engine marketing; it is, after all, the most popular search engine in the world. Over 70 percent of online searches are made on Google. But don’t ignore Yahoo just as yet. Yahoo has a lot going for it too. Let’s analyze….
Google vs. Yahoo for Search Engine Marketing
Google AdWords is the most popular pay-per-click advertising program in the world. It is also the most expensive in its category. Did you know that it costs you 3 times as much to advertise on Google as it does on Yahoo? But it is money well spent considering that Google has close to 70% of the search engine market.
Google provides a lot of flexibility over your choice of keywords, far more than other search engines do. The thing about Google is that you won’t have to worry about being too specific about the keywords as the Google search engine is so smart that it can crawl web pages for related keyword phrases as well and give you the results you’re looking for.
Also, when you’re on Google, you will have the benefit of Google Analytics, which is the most powerful keyword research and analytics tool out there. You will know everything about where your visitors are coming from, what motivates them and what attracts them to your websites or blogs.
Here’s what you should know about Yahoo – The Yahoo search engine is controlled by Bing, which means it runs on Bing technology. This is almost as advanced as Google search engine. The Bing and Yahoo combination is very powerful and you’re guaranteed to get the results that you’re looking for.
As an online marketer, you will like Yahoo because the positions on the search engine results pages on Bing and Yahoo are almost identical. Another reason to advertise on Yahoo is that many cell phone companies have made Yahoo their default search engine. So it has a captive audience waiting to be exploited.
The advertising rates on Yahoo are much lower than that on Google. You will probably get more bang for the buck when you advertise on Yahoo compared to Google depending on the audience you’re looking to target.
Conclusion: Google or Yahoo?
Yahoo has better conversion rates and cheaper cost per conversion. But it cannot be denied that Google has a far greater reach and more volume. As an affiliate marketer or an online marketer, you will still benefit from Yahoo’s great affiliate network. So the smart thing to do is to have a presence on both platforms.
